Unable to log in as admin after first install phpBB

I used MAMP to install phpBB, however once I went to the page to login, it would not accept my credentials that I had entered in the install process. I tried the recovery option but it did not send an email. I uninstalled and reinstalled with the same results.
Any suggestions?
