SSL problem: https redirect

Im am testing a w*ebsite with the free version of MAMP, with standard port settings. It won't run, instead I get the following message: SSL_ERROR_RX_RECORD_TOO_LONG.

I noticed that there is a redirect from http to https which I am not able to suppress. I cheched the .htaccess which does not contain any redirect command; there is no .well-known-file either. How can I prevent MAMP from redirecting to https?
