If you cannot start MySQL in MAMP, you may already have a MySQL process running in the background. 


1. Open Activity Monitor.

2. Browse for mysqld process and manually quit it.

3. Try starting MySQL in MAMP again.


If MySQL still does not start, quit MAMP and browse  to /Library/Application Support/appsolute/MAMP PRO/db/mysql folder and trash the following log files:
