If you attempted to renew your website SSL certificate using certbot, you may have received a message that prevented a successful renewal.

lets encrypt missing webroot error renewal

Attempting to renew cert (xxx.xxx) from /etc/letsencrypt/renewal/xxx.xxx.conf produced an unexpected error: Missing command line flag or config entry for this setting:

Select the webroot for xxx.xxx:

Choices: ['Enter a new webroot', '/Applications/MAMP/htdocs/xxx.xxx]

(You can set this with the --webroot-path flag). Skipping.

You are missing a webroot domain configuration line for an SSL certificate. Check the following.

  1. Open the renewal conf file for the failed renewal domain located below.

/etc/letsencrypt/renewal/xxx.xxx.conf

  1. Search for [[webroot_map]] line (at the bottom). Add the necessary domain root to the configuration file you are missing, save, and attempt the renewal again.
